I painted Mountain Mosaic on an arched wood panel with the goal of creating a landscape that felt like stained glass. Rather than blending colors traditionally, I intentionally divided the composition into individual shapes, challenging myself to use similar hues while making each piece appear like a different type and thickness of glass.

The hummingbird moves through this mosaic of mountains, flowers, and flowing water as a symbol of joy and resilience. Looking back, I realize this painting also reflects something that appears throughout much of my artwork—my fascination with quilts, mosaics, and the idea that life is built one piece at a time. Individual experiences may seem separate, but together they create something whole.

This original painting found its home in a clinic serving displaced children in El Paso, where I hope it continues to offer color, hope, and moments of quiet wonder.
