In the Collection of a Private Family
This painting was created as a private commission through the Seen/Unseen Art Project, a nonprofit that connects artists with families who have experienced the loss of a child.
From the moment we met, I felt an immediate connection as the family shared the story of their precious baby girl who left this world far too soon. Every element of this painting was created to honor her life and the love that continues to surround her.
The soft pink sunrise represents their daughter, while the light and rising sun symbolize our Creator and the hope that remains even in seasons of grief. The bluebonnets were inspired by the tiny blue dress her parents had hoped to bring her home in.
The group of trees represents her father, mother, and two older brothers. The small cross quietly honors their baby girl. The prickly pear cactus reminds us that life includes hardship, while the yellow butterflies were inspired by the butterflies that appeared during her memorial service—a gentle reminder that beauty and hope can still be found, even in our deepest sorrow.
Creating this painting was a tremendous honor. It reminded me that art can preserve memories, tell deeply personal stories, and bring comfort when words are not enough.
