Our Lady of Perpetual Help holds a special place in my artistic journey because it is the work that gave birth to my Faith Series.
The image began unexpectedly on the day of my granddaughter's First Communion. When the scheduled photograher became ill, I volunteered to photograph the sacred ceremony. It gave me the privilege of capturing a milestone for children and their families, while also allowing me to spend time observing the church's sacred artwork and Marian iconography.
As we left the church, I photographed the architecture, feeling drawn to the beauty and quiet strength of the building itself. Later, while reviewing the image, I experimented by blending the photograph of of the church with an image of Mary. To my surprise the two photographs aligned almost perfectly, creating a seamless composition that felt less like coincidence and more like divine discovery.
That unexpected union became my inspiration for my Faith Series. In that moment, I realized that architecture could become more that a structure-it could serve as a vessel for memory, belief, and sacred symbolism. I consider Our Lady of Perpetual Help to be the mother image of the series, the work from which all the others have grown.
Created through the fusion of infrared photography and digital collage, this piece invites viewers to reflect on the ways faith often emerges through unexpected moments, ordinary experiences, and the quiet intersections of everyday life and the sacred.
